Where we are in 2013
Health Assessments for years K, 2 and 4
As part of Robert DeCastella’s SmartStart for Kids! program, children in the years K, 2 and 4 undergo a health assessment measuring areas such as body composition, cardio fitness, power, functional coordination, strength and flexibility. The results from these assessments will be compared to the SmartStart database (over 52,000 primary school children over a 12 year period) and those children deemed to be at risk of lifestyle related illness (either through poor body composition OR poor fitness results) will be invited to HEELP.
HEELP (Healthy Exercise, Eating and Living Program) is an 8 week program run at the school, after school and includes healthy living and nutrition education as well as fun, safe, physical activity. Each child involved in HEELP will receive a pedometer, a healthy living diary and a Premium Folder Kit.
As well as the assessments and HEELP, each school involved in SmartStart in 2013 will also receive a comprehensive analysis of their results as well as detailed physical activity resources and professional development sessions.
Healthy Tip: When you don’t rest well, you compensate by eating more, usually junk food. Get enough rest and you don’t need to snack to stay awake. |
