January to April has been a very busy and exciting time for SmartStart with 7 schools participating in the Smartstart for Kids assessments, Kangoo Jump holiday programs and our first intake of children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder taking part in the Physical Fun Program.
The following schools participated in assessments in term 1 thanks to funding from the ACT Government: Burgmann Anglican School (305 children); Gilmore Primary School (55 children); Caroline Chishiolm Primary School (93 children); Gowrie Primary School (72 children); Mawson Primary School (53 children); Giralang Primary School (54 children); Wanniassa School Junior Campus (65 children). Special mentions go to Giralang Primary School for their 12th year of participation and Caroline Chisholm Primary School for having every child in years K, 2 and 4 participate! In term 2 these schools will participate in HEELP with 7 different schools taking part in the assessments.
The Kangoo Jumps program was delivered at the YMCA Vacation Care with over 80 children given the opportunity to have fun getting fit in a specially designed Kangoo Class. Thanks to Amanda and Emily the leaders on the day for providing the kids with a fun experience.
Finally the Physical Fun Program was successfully delivered to children both at Learning Ways and at the AAACT offices in Chifley. We look forward to continuing this program through term 2 and providing more children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder with the opportunity to improve their health and wellbeing and social interaction through a fun, structured physical activity program.
Well done and thank you to all who contributed in term 1 and we look forward to more exciting news and stories over the next 2 months!
