SmartStart for Kids! is a not-for-profit program that measures and reports on the health and fitness characteristics of primary school children.
The program is designed to profile risk, monitor changes in health, promote good health behaviours and practices, and encourage appropriate self-responsibility in children, their parents, and schools so as to improve health and fitness outcomes.
Since 1999, we have conducted our program to over 90 schools in the ACT, NSW, Queensland and South Australia with around 50,000 students having participated in the assessments alone.
After the assessments, schools are provided with an in-depth analysis of the schools results, ranging from gender comparisons of each health and fitness category to a comprehensive breakdown of each cohort of children in the school and their results compared to their peers and the Territory. These school profiles are pivotal in the development of a schools PE program and really outline key areas of focus and achievement.
SmartStart also offers schools the opportunity to participate in professional development – sessions which enhance the knowledge and experience of teachers around physical activity and health – as well as providing resources and curriculums for schools to implement successful, holistic, physical education programs.
SmartStart can also offer new, exciting health programs to the school such as Kangoo Jumps.
