SmartStart I-CAN (Indigenous Communities for Activity and Nutrition) is a program aimed at improving the health of Indigenous Communities. Funded by the Department of Health and Ageing’s Live Longer Campaign – the program will be piloted in the Aboriginal Community of Amoonguna, 20km outside Alice Springs. The community members will have the chance to participate in physical activity (children’s, men’s and women’s groups) as well as undergo health checks and healthy nutrition education. The program will be managed by SmartStart remotely in Canberra and will be run in partnership with the Amoonguna Health Clinic and Get Physical (based in Alice Springs).
The SmartStart team is very excited about this new opportunity to work with Amoonguna and will be posting news and pics from the program throughout the year.
